About Formula Student

The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a student design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocrossracer.

More than 500 teams design, manufacture and fund an open-wheeled prototype racecar in order to compete among each other. Every team has to follow specific technical and other restrictions in order to participate in the events. Nevertheless, students have the ability to apply a wide range of designing ideas and innovations. Therefore each vehicle is unique.

The overall package of construction, cost planning, sales strategy and sales performance are crucial for rating.

The competition is divided in two main categories: Static events and Dynamics events.
In order to participate in the dynamic events, each team must pass the Technical Inspection.

Static events:

  • Technical Inspection

  • Cost and Manufacturing

  • Business plan presentation

  • Engineering design

 Dynamic events:

  • Skidpad

  • Acceleration

  • Autocross

  • Endurance

  • Fuel Efficiency
